Currently, we have been working hard with a franchisee to find a piece of real estate and the best exercise equipment for these two franchisees’ illuminate gym. It’s a tough time in the franchise world as people are having trouble getting financing for any kind of business let alone a new business. At illuminate gym we have done everything we can to help our franchisees with funding by becoming a SBA registered franchise which carries some weight with most major banks in America. However, now we are getting creative with how we are helping future franchisees. It’s a tough economy but we feel really thankful that we are in a business that is recession proof. The truth is over the past few years I along with other staff members at illuminate gym have watched learned and even spoken to some of our competitors and their franchisees. illuminate gym decides to add another marketing avenue…
Monday, July 20th, 2009Over the weekend when everyone was out enjoying the summer we were here at illuminate gym hard at work. Saturday was a busy day inside of illuminate gym with personal trainers and their clients worked hard to maintain and build toward their ultimate fitness goals. I was stashed away in the office on the phone with franchising marketing companies trying to find the best way to connect with our future franchisees. It’s a tough world to navigate because their are so many franchising marketing forums out there to choose from and it’s tough to know which is the best for your company. In fact, it’s a roll of the dice because I know their are franchisees out there who are looking right now for a company just like illuminate gym to take their career to a whole new level. It’s an exciting time but I as a business owner want to make sure we can connect with as many perspective franchisees as possible. At illuminate gym our personal trainers, staff and myself are looking to illuminate people’s futures. That could mean by providing the best personal training in the fitness industry or it could mean helping someone build a successful personal training gym just as we have here in Denver, Colorado. How are these other franchises surviving harsh economic times?
Friday, July 10th, 2009I returned home to Denver early this morning where the first illuminate gym and our headquarters currently are. I drove down to illuminate gym at 5 AM to find two clients working out with their personal trainers. Every morning I drive by an existing franchise that I myself had looked into opening years ago. However, I didn’t love the business model and the priority list of the franchise, so I decided to open illuminate gym. Within a matter of months this franchise had opened right down the street from our location and every morning and afternoon I drive by the fitness studio only to find that the doors are locked and the lights are out. Every once and awhile I’ll see on personal trainer working with a client, but realistically the space is a ‘ghost town’, which brings me to the question, ‘how are these franchises surviving harsh economic times?’ I never would have brought this point up if I one of our personal trainers didn’t sign up 2 former clients from this franchise. They have dumped a lot of money into marketing as we have, but their lack of serious gym equipment and high price point makes it tough for people to continue to train there. At illuminate gym we are changing the face of fitness in Denver and we are now taking clients from another franchise because the value of our facility is shining through. It’s unfortunate for these other gym owners but their business model is making it impossible to stray from the price point they have established at their facilities. It’s been a wild ride and we are sure that in the next few months will be nothing but exciting as we begin to change people’s lives across the nation. I know the first time I began working in a gym I absolutely fell in love with the business. I have always been a person who needed to be passionate about whatever I was working on and I definately was when it came to fitness. There is really nothing better than helping people obtain their fitness goals. It’s incredible to be a personal trainer and have someone tell you that you have changed their lives for the better forever. I’ve seen many clients over the years who have gained confidence and a better quality of life with their personal training at illuminate gym. Today I get to start teaching people how to take their love for the fitness industy and turn it into a profitable career as I have. I can’t wait for my first franchisee to feel the same satisfaction as I have over the years here at illuminate gym. Gym franchises fall short…
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009Today we have spent most of our morning looking over complaints from franchisees about franchisors in the fitness industry. The Internet is a powerful tool and can sometimes be an exposing tool to companies that aren’t doing the right things within their business. Some of the complaints about some of the largest fitness franchises in the world were shocking. The majority of the issues were that franchisees were not getting the franchise support necessary for their businesses to be successful. I’m not in a dream world about business and I do understand that sometimes businesses fail. However, I don’t understand how a franchisee reaches out for help or support from a franchisor and gets nothing in return. To that is absolutely ridiculous. If as a franchisor you don’t have faith in the person running your business then they should have never become a franchisee at all. That is at the fault of the franchisor. However, as soon as the franchisor agreed to award the entrepreneur a franchise they should have offered as much support as possible to ensure their success. Some of the stories from former franchisees were really awful to read and quite frankly didn’t make any sense to me. At illuminate gym we are prepared to offer our future franchisees the best franchise support in the industry because we understand that our future success hinges on our franchisees success. We don’t want to hear and of our franchisees upset with us because we have fallen short on our end of the deal. Franchisees should work as hard as they can to protect the name illuminate gym and continue its success while acquiring all of their own benefits. We also took our first step in marketing the franchise for illuminate gym. Initially, we have decided to advertise with www.franchiseexpo.com and in the future with www.franchise.com. It’s an exciting time as we start to move forward with our franchise opportunities and we couldn’t be more excited. Many people are telling us to be concerned with the economic climate of our nation but now is as good as any to get our feet wet in the franchise world. Our business model is proven here at illuminate gym and as we continue to make our way through the franchise world we hope to become even more helpful to our future franchisees. I know I am ecstatic about our company’s development and I can’t wait to help future entrepreneurs with their own illuminate gym. Independance Day is here at illuminate gym…
Saturday, July 4th, 2009Today is Independence Day and illuminate gym is still full of clientele trying to push through one workout before the beginning of the feast and drinks that await them. I am here trying to get our final push of information done for future franchisees. I know as a future (franchisor) I keep running over our ‘Franchise Operations Manual’ to ensure I have left nothing out for future franchisees when they start running their own illuminate gym. It sometimes seems so easy to run a business that you have built and ran for the last 6 years but when you’re in the thick of explaining what you do on a day to day basis you sometimes leave things out. I know in my experience of owning a gym and being an entrepreneur there is always risk and future franchisees will have to take the same risks I did years ago. However, the fundamental difference between what I had to endure and what our future franchisees will have to go through is they will have the support of the team here at illuminate gym to help them through any issues they may have. I know within the first illuminate gym a lot of my experience and knowledge of business has come from the mistakes that I have made along the way. Some of them were costly and some of them were merely learning experiences. Future franchisees will have the blessing to have the best franchise support in our industry. Nutritional Counseling is a vital part of our personal training…
Friday, July 3rd, 2009Recently I met with a personal trainer from California involved with another fitness franchise. We sat down and spoke very briefly about our price points for all of our services and he was shocked that illuminate gym does not charge extra for nutritional counseling. ‘Why would you give that away for free?” he asked me. I sat back and it made me understand why illuminate gym is so different from our future competitors. Our competitors are only concerned with the bottom of line of their profession. Where at illuminate gym our focus is giving our clients the best opportunity to succeed with their fitness goals. At illuminate gym we guarantee at least 2 or more measurements will change on each of our clients bodies in their first month of training. “Why wouldn’t we help someone with their nutrition?” is my question. To be honest we understand that 95% of our clientele at illuminate gym is interested in losing weight or toning up with a personal trainer, so of course nutrition is vital to their overall success.
