The all important search for real estate in the franchise world…

Friday, October 16th, 2009

One thing that is becoming more and more evident to us here at Illuminate Gym that we have to trust our franchisees and their ideas on real estate a little more than we are.  illuminate gym is poised to open at least 2 more locations in the Colorado market over the next 10 months and we have been heavily involved with the basic research on properties.  The question as a franchisor is how involved should we be in finding real estate for our future franchisees?  This is an important question we have to answer because as we move forward with our franchise opportunity across the country we obviously won’t be able to give the same real estate support as we are with franchisees in our backyard.

It’s important to note that at illuminate gym we do have basic parameters for our future franchise locations such as, estimated square footage, recommended signage requirements, visibility and other aesthetic and building recommendations we have.  However, we have to be sure we don’t over step our our obligations when it comes to dealing the seeing real estate.  Ultimately, we would like to approve all of the future illuminate gym locations but we also have to be able to trust our franchisees with their decision on where they believe they can make their business prosper the most.  As a franchisor we are merely consultants trying to help our franchisees to become successful entrepreneurs and in turn our business will grow.  It’s an exciting time in our franchise growth but we need to be able to take a step back to allow our franchisees to grow into business owners and decision makers.  Thanks so much for reading and have a healthy day!

What are the keys to losing weight?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

‘What are the keys to losing weight?’ is a question our personal trainers hear all the time at illuminate gym.  It’s a question that is really the basis of every fitness business.  ‘How do I lose weight?’.  I heard one of my fitness mentors call it ’shrink wrap and tone’ which means that 95% of the fitness industry is about losing weight.  It’s about fighting obesity.

As a franchise model it’s important that we continue to focus on our client’s results and our personal trainers/franchisees ability to show the clients how to be successful.  At illuminate gym our philosophy is very simple.  We beleive losing weight is a 3 part system.

First is resistance training or weight lifting.  Resistance training is important because it helps the body develop leaner and more dense muscle which makes the resting metabolic level of a person rise.  This means lifting weights makes people necessitate more calories to keep the basic functions of the body on track.  A pound of muscle burns 10 calories a day just to survive daily.  In other words, muscle is good to have and resistance training helps with bone density which is very important as we age to avoid osteoperosis and other skelatal issues.

Second is cardiovascular training which first and foremost is the training of the heart.  We all need a healthy heart to continue living a high quality of life however, on top of that is the calorie burning that goes on inside of the body during cardiovascular training is key to losing weight.

Lastly, is nutrition which at illuminate gym our philosophy says that this is over 70% of the journey to losing weight.  The reason is simple.  In the United States we are eating too much and unfortunately, we’re eating to much of the wrong things.  If a person is looking to lose a lot of weight they will need to make sure their nutrition is matching their ultimate goal because if a person works out hard but then consumes too many calories they will inevitably be cancelling all their hard work out.  There is some truth to the argument that losing weight is a math equation.  In order to lose weight you must burn more calories than you take in.

At illuminate gym our future franchisees and personal trainers are committed to helping people lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.  Above are the three keys to controling one’s weight in our opinion at illuminate gym.  If you focus on these three things you will have no problem with controlling or losing weight. Thanks for reading and have a healthy day!

illuminate gym has plans to open 2 more locations in Denver by 2010

DENVER—October 14, 2009—illuminate gym, affordable personal training featuring unique High Oxygen Training (HOT), announced today that there are plans as of this week to open 2 more illuminate gyms in the Denver area.

The first franchisee of illuminate gym is a long time client who originally started working with the personal trainers at the original illuminate gym over 4 years ago.  His results and his faith in both ‘High Oxygen Training’ and the business model of illuminate gym made it an easy decision to look into joining the illuminate gym system.

The second franchisee, who is currently looking for real estate in the Denver Tech Center, is a current personal trainer at illuminate gym who has developed ‘High Oxygen Training’ from its inception.  He also sees the opportunity illuminate gym offers for his future success.

At illuminate gym we would like to wish these 2 franchisees luck as we begin to search for real estate in their communities.  It’s great that people who have experienced the service and business dealings of illuminate gym are the future of illuminate gym in Colorado.  We wish them luck and hopefully with a little help from us they will build successful businesses.”

If you are interested in tracking the progress of any of our future franchisees and their success check out illuminate gym’s CEO Blog at www.illuminategym.com.  Have a healthy day!

The buzz of the illuminate gym franchise…

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

The buzz over illuminate gym’s franchise opportunities is starting to take form across the country.  Leads are beginning to poor into illuminate gym Development Company and people are starting to take notice of the unique franchise concept and business approach we are taking.  This uniqueness includes how we compensate our personal trainers, how we market illuminate gym and our approach to supporting our franchisees.  At illuminate gym our success is based on the success of our franchisees rather than the investment for our franchisees.  It’s one reason we have taken the stance that all franchisees must be pre-qualified before we move forward.  We also make it very clear that financials are not the only qualifying attributes we are looking to carry the illuminate gym brand forward.  For all of us personal trainers and fitness professionals at illuminate gym we understand our brand cannot merely be carried by financial investments.  The illuminate gym has to be carried by those people who wish to help people change for the better.  After all, illuminate gym is a safe place for people to become a better version of themselves.  When we first started down the path of organizing as a franchise many people wondered if it was possible to duplicate our success because of the way our core group of personal trainers approached the Denver community.  However, today after traveling the country and meeting with a lot of personal trainers and fitness professionals I know that with their help the right entrepreneurs can make illuminate gym successful anywhere.  You could look at illuminate gym as a microcosm as society as a whole.  if you believe that people have an urge to help others while making financial gains then you believe that illuminate gym will be a successful franchise.  Thanks so much for reading and have a healthy day.

Nutrition remains the toughest piece of fitness…

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

At illuminate gym our franchisees and personal trainers are committed to getting results for their clients.  It’s the core of our business model and if we don’t make significant changes in our clients’ bodies then we will inevitably lose them.  Many fitness franchises forget about the basics of building a successful fitness facility because they get to wrapped up in the numbers behind the business.  The truth of the matter is at illuminate gym we make a decision to continue to focus on the results of our existing and future clients.  What we have found is that nutrition still seems to be the hardest part of the fitness journey for the majority of our clients.  Hard work at illuminate gym is easily provided by our personal trainers but it’s when our clients leave our gyms where the issues come on.

Food is the toughest addiction a person can ever conquer in their lives because their is temptation every where you look.  Even today as I myself have started a strict diet found myself staring up at the billboards that lined my way to work.  Juicy hamburgers, greasy hot dogs, and cookies paved the way for me to make it to illuminate gym this morning… And to be honest it all looked really good.  Then we all make our way to the grocery store where frozen food aisles are filled with sexy pictures of our favorite unhealthy foods like pizzas and ice cream.  Then there is the challenging gauntlet of candy bars and sodas we all have to walk through to pay for our groceries.  Then there are those neon fast food signs that always remind us that it would be so much easier just to drive-thru and pick up food rather than going home and making something nutritious.  It’s a tough world to live in for a food addict… And unfortunately, there are many us including myself who have trouble saying no to some of those attractive foods that are so bad for us.  So it shouldn’t be be a shock to our personal trainers that our clients struggle the most with their nutrition.  As a fitness franchise we can’t lose site of our fight against obesity.  If we focus on that both our personal trainers and our franchisees will become successful.

Are Fitness Franchises a too much of a risk to landlords?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

The question that came up today at illuminate gym development company was are fitness franchises too much of a risk to commercial landlords?  Today I met with a landlord inside of illuminate gym and he made it very clear that a lot of commercial landlords are not interested in having fitness franchises or mom and pop gyms move into their spaces because they look at it as if they are too much of a risk for failure.  I promptly asked the client/landlord why this was true and it’s because the view is that the fitness industry is too volatile for long term success.  Now hearing this makes me think two things.  Number one is that this landlord is absolutely right because most fitness facilities do go out of businesses.  Number two is we wonder as a nation why we are so obese and out of shape… People would rather hit the drive thru at MacDonald’s rather than workout…. Number three is a different sort of franchise needs to be put into motion that hasn’t been done before.  Now we’re not in a dream world about our franchise model here at illuminate gym.  We’re not trying to re-invent the wheel… We’re just merely trying to make it roll a little bit better.  Thanks for reading and I hope you have a healthy day!

Fitness Franchises don’t find themselves ranked…

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Franchise Times Magazine just released their top 200 franchises for 2009.  I received the magazine yesterday and I made my way through the list in hopes of finding a plethora of fitness franchises.   I passed by multiple pizza franchises…. burger franchises… ice cream franchises and then before I knew it the plump franchises of sugar and saturated fats started to congeal into one glob  of unhealthy franchise opportunity.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a fitness franchise to be found in the first 100.  Then as I made my through the franchise opportunities I found that only one fitness franchise made their way onto the list.  Curves made their way onto the list and that was it.  The other franchise that could be viewed as a fitness franchise was GNC even though in my mind you can’t consider yourself a fitness franchise unless you actually provide an avenue to create health and fitness.  GNC merely provides supplements to help with overall fitness even though these supplements need to be used in conjunction with other places and/or activities.  Otherwise, you just dropped $100.00 on nothing but a powder drink that most likely tastes horrible and a bottle of pills the guy behind the desk says have worked wonders for him.

At illuminate gym I showed the Franchise Times Magazine to our personal trainers and to some perspective franchisees and I made it very clear that this needs to change in order for our country to change it’s unhealthy ways.  As I said before if the franchise growth in America continues to grow toward ‘deep fried’ franchises then the obesity in America will follow right behind.  We need to begin giving people more options when it comes to fitness and health because people are screaming for something new in their lives.  At illuminate gym we are confident we can show people results with our ‘High Oxygen Training’ and get them to put down that cheeseburger before their health and body fat gets to a place where there is no return.  Though we are disappointed in the list of the top 200 franchises in the country we are also confident at illuminate gym that their is a large opening in the fitness industry and franchise world that we can fill.  If you have any interest in becoming a part of the next great fitness franchise please fill out our contact form or franchise application.   Thanks for reading and have a healthy day!

illuminate gyms looks for real estate in the DTC

DENVER—October 5, 2009—illuminate gym is proud to announce that today we are beginning the search with a franchisee for a second location in the greater Denver area.  The newest illuminate gym will be located somewhere in the Denver Tech Center.

We’re really excited to be looking at opening our second location in the Denver area and we’re quite certain we’ll open another by the end of the year,” David Sedbrook CEO and founder of illuminate gym said.  The newest franchisee is a former personal trainer at illuminate gym who recognized the opportunity that illuminate gym could offer both he and his family.  He has worked for illuminate gym since the day their doors officially opened in Denver.

“I think it’s a testament to what we’re doing here at illuminate gym that people who have been connected with our business for years are the franchisees pursuing our business model the hardest.  I think it shows that those who are familiar with our principles, values and business model understand the opportunity available at illuminate gym,” David Sedbrook said.  I just love the way illuminate gym does business.  I have been a personal trainer for over 10 years and coming to illuminate gym was the best career move I ever made.  They helped me become a better personal trainer and now they’ll help me become a successful business owner,” the next illuminate gym owner said.

illuminate gym plans on continuing their growth in the Denver area challenging some other fitness franchises in the area as their commitment to changing the fitness experience in America continues to sweep across the Denver market.  illuminate gym is also reporting that they are working with a long time client who was so excited about his results from illuminate gym years ago that he was inspired to become a personal trainer and to one day own his own boutique gym.  It will be quite an honor if this client opens an illuminate gym.  He made a commitment 3 years ago and he lost over 45 lbs. and now he is a fitness professional who wants to be an entrepreneur and we couldn’t be more proud of him at illuminate gym.  He has become a healthier more confident version of himself.  Three years ago if you would have told me this gentleman would become an illuminate gym owner I couldn’t have seen it.  Today after his accomplishments with his own health and fitness there is no doubt he can do anything,” David Sedbrook said.

Fitness Franchise looks for a big 2010…

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Next year 2010 will hopefully hold a lot of success for the franchise world and for the future entrepreneurs of America.  Here at illuminate gym we are working with personal trainers and perspective franchisees to make sure that 2010 is a good year for us and the fitness of America.  Our commitment to our clients’ and personal trainers’ success will be sure to spread our brand across the country.  Currently, we are offering unheard of franchise specials which will allow people to buy into the illuminate gym model for around $10,000.  This price and value for what we offer over our competitors in the fitness franchise world will surely set us apart in 2010.

At illuminate gym we have always taken the same philosophies we have passed onto our personal training clients.  When someone walks into an illuminate gym and hires a personal trainer we always let them know that ‘Rome was not built in a day,’ meaning that making a change in life style or appearance doesn’t happen over night.  It takes time, work and effort which are the same principles we are putting into our franchise development.  Even today here we are at 8:30 on a Sunday night working hard in the office for our future franchisees.  This hard work will continue as we move toward having franchise locations across the country.  It’s more important for us now that we create the best system for our franchisees to be as successful and efficient as possible rather than growing too quickly.  I want to thank everyone who has been instrumental to getting illuminate gym to the place it is today.  And as I said before as a fitness franchise we are looking for a lot of growth in 2010.  Thanks again for reading and have a healthy day!
