A reminder of why health is important comes into Illuminate Gym!
Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010He was 33 years old and he walked into the Illuminate Gym located in Denver, Colorado to meet with a personal trainer. He was overweight but the youthful look on his face made it hard to believe that this gentleman wasn’t healthy. However, as he sat down with a personal trainer at Illuminate Gym he explained that he had suffered a heart attack 6 months before because of a poor diet that consisted of too much fat, salt, sugar, alcohol and of course bulk of his ‘nutrtion’ was coming from fast-food. On top of a horrible diet he worked tirelessly behind a computer watching domestic and foreign stock markets in an attempt to make the safe bet to make investors millions of dollars. The problem was he had forgotten about himself and his own health.
“I made pretty good money and unfortunately I forgot about myself and my health. I bought beautiful suits, nice cars, and a nice house,” he explained. Then it happened… A severe heart attack hit this particular client at age 33 and he was faced with the reality that he had focused on all the wrong things in life.
“I just feel blessed I have a second chance to live a healthier life and I’m hoping Illuminate Gym’s personal trainers can help,” he said. He’s right he does have a second chance and his focus is now on himself. This client helped me take a look at what we do day-to-day and put it into perspective. I always say that investing in your health and fitness is not a waste of money even though too many believe it is. Today I realize that we have living proof that working too hard, eating poorly, and not working out can lead you to a successful career and an early death where you will not be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Why is America getting fatter with all of these fitness options?
Monday, June 21st, 2010So why is obesity on the rise in America with all of these fitness options or gyms out there? Well there really isn’t a simple answer to this question, but I’ll try my best to answer it with my personal opinion. First and foremost, as technology has begun to advance itself we are seeing a change in our the newer generations activity level. Today with computers and video game consoles there is no reason to go out and play because you can do everything in a cyber world. You don’t even need to learn to play an instrument with games like ‘Rock Band’ out there. Then those same kids grow up to work behind a desk and a computer screen. In other words, as a society of people we are not getting enough activity in our day-to-day lives and it’s now starting at childhood. Also our nutrition habits in the United States are starting to slip even further into cheap foods packed with saturated fats, sugars and preservatives. So now we are looking at a society that doesn’t have enough activity and we’re eating poorly and in most instances too much! With this combination you see a society that is 36% obese and 61% over weight. The question is how are all these gyms and fitness options helping with the obesity epidemic in America?? The simple answer is they’re not. Most fitness facilities are selling the dream of a healthier and fit life. However, as soon as you drop that credit card on the table you are let loose into a jungle of fitness equipment which very few no how to use. In other words, most people going to the gym are unclear about how to pursue their fitness goals. So they either waste their time in the gym or they merely stop going. However, they usually always continue to pay for the gym because as I said before fitness facilities are selling the dream of a healthier and fit lifestyle. So now we have people who aren’t active enough, eating horrible and they are members to a gym they don’t know how to properly use.
At Illuminate Gym our philosophy is your health is worth a trained professional. If you didn’t know to build a house would you trust yourself to build your dream home? I didn’t think so, and your body should be no different. At Illuminate Gym we offer the opportunity to have a fitness professional take an active role in your personal fitness journey at an affordable price. We also offer nutritional counseling at no extra cost. We are committed to helping our clients become as fit as they can. Thanks so much for reading the blog here at www.illuminategym.com. Circuit Training in the Fitness Franchise World…
Wednesday, June 16th, 2010It all started with Curves and now Circuit Training has exploded across the fitness franchise world. Everyone in the fitness world is looking for the next ‘Hot Fad’ that will make them rich! It sounds great as Circuit Training limits the amount of work that a gym owner will have and it also cuts down on the expertise needed to effectively get people into shape…. or maybe get people into shape. This common thread between Circuit Training is now crossing into smaller boxing gyms and other weight lifting gyms and the model concerns me greatly. You see Curves came at the perfect time in American society. Baby Boomers were getting older and many of the women in the generation had never been to the gym and quite honestly the gym was widely considered to be a man’s place. So Curves was born and became the place for middle aged women to pursue their fitness goals without the distraction of slamming weights and grunting men. In other words, Curves had little to do with the circuit they offered to their clients and more about the atmosphere provided to their customers. In our opinion at Illuminate Gym circuit training is not the answer to your fitness needs as it doesn’t offer the variation to keep your muscles guessing and it also becomes monotonous and boring to customers. At Illuminate Gym our goal as a fitness franchise has always been to provide a safe environment for clients to pursue their fitness goals but also to offer tailor made regimens that change constantly to ensure our customers have the best opportunity to obtain their fitness goals.
Variety is the spice of life and it is also the spice of a powerful workout regimen that can help you get in the best shape of your life. If you are interested in receiving a tailor made workout regimen for yourself or if you are interested in fitness franchise opportunity then please check us out at www.illuminategym.com! How are you staying fit in your life?
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010So the question on every one’s mind is how do I stay fit? And what is fit to you? Is being fit looking a certain way? Is being fit avoiding the health concerns that usually follow obesity and poor eating habits? Whatever fitness is for you it’s important that you stay focused on making it a priority no matter what life throws your way. As time as evolved humans have become much more dependant on technology and their minds rather than their bodies. Because of this change in lifestyle we have become a much more sedentary species that has sacrificed a lot to become more ’sophisticated’ and ‘complex’. Today manual labor continues to shrink and our ability to find food around every corner is so simple that we’re becoming fat. It’s important no matter what your lifestyle consists of that you make sure that you are active for at least 20 minutes a day and also watch your diet as closely as possible because you don’t want to be another obesity statistic.
Today Illuminate Gym is committed through personal training and diet guidelines to help our customers live healthier and more fit lives. If you or someone you know needs help with your fitness before you cross a line of no-return please find a fitness/nutrition professional who can help you conquer your fitness goals or you can contact us here at Illuminate Gym at www.illuminategym.com. Personal Training Philosophy…
Thursday, June 10th, 2010High Oxygen Training is method of personal training but there is more than just learning specific regimens and movements to provide to clients. There is also an approach to clients that can make all the difference in the world. Currently, I am in Houston, Texas checking out a possible conversion facility in Cypress, Texas (a suburb of Houston). After seeing this facility and others like it around the country it has become very clear to me that the approach to a client is almost as important as the results you can provide. Training is a very hard step for people to take because it is difficult on their will power as their hearts starts racing, the sweat starts pouring, and of course the soreness. Because of this attack on the human will to continue on with such a rigorous activity it is important that the trainer is intuitive with so much more than just the body. Mental and emotional tactics that work to push one individual may not work on another and it’s so important that your training staffs understand how to decipher what is best for every client. If you fail your clients in this way you will eventually lose them as customers. At illuminate gym this has always been second nature to us but after seeing other personal training gyms in full swing it has become apparent to me that it is important to point our to business owners that people are made up of so much more than just muscle fibers.

The risk of being a franchisee…
Tuesday, June 8th, 2010There are always risks involved with becoming a business owner and becoming a franchisee is no different. Starting a new business in a new territory is always a risk and there are many factors that can influence if you become successful or not. It is the franchisor’s job to present all of the trade secrets that have made past sites successful. However, it is up to the business owner to ensure that the quality of service and experience is at a level that will make the community around your business continue to support your venture and help it grow. At Illuminate Gym we are committed to finding ways to make sure that our franchisees are successful however, we also concede that a new business owner always take s the risk of failure. It’s cliche to say but ‘high risk is where high reward occurs’. I can tell you from experience that becoming an entrepreneur can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life bit it also is a great challenge. And even with the support of a franchisor it is still a challenge to develop a successful business.
If you have any questions about our franchise development at illuminate gym or franchises as a whole please check us out at www.illuminategym.com/franchises.php. And please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have about franchising.
After the holiday it’s time for you to get back on track…
Thursday, June 3rd, 2010Summer is here and Americans have begun the season by eating and drinking their way through Memorial Day Weekend. Many of the clients at all the Illuminate Gym Franchises are back to work at our facilities with their personal trainers and hopefully ready to move on from the rough weekend. I personally still see quite a few client food logs and this morning I opened my email to find many of the diets over the past few days and just as I suspected there were a lot of hamburgers, hotdogs, ribs, cakes, beer and of course a lot of other cocktails. After the long weekend it’s important that all of the personal trainers at Illuminate Gym get their clients’ focus back on their nutrition needs and their workouts. Many of our clients have worked very hard for all of their results and we want to continue to produce results within their workouts but it can be quite a challenge after a long weekend of eating and drinking. Part of the job of a personal trainer is to motivate their clients in and out of the gym. Thanks so much for reading our blog and please get back on track with your nutrition!
