‘Why am I not losing weight?’ was the question I heard yesterday at the Illuminate Gym (Sunshine Gym) in Cherry Creek, Colorado. It’s a question we have heard a million times in the personal training world. At Illuminate Gym we always guarantee that at least 2 measurements will change on each and every client within the first month of hiring a personal trainer. However, after that first month a client must start changing their life outside of the gym to continue to see dramatic results. Here are some tips on how you can ensure you give yourself the best chance of losing weight.
1. You have to be active for at least 30 minutes a day.
2. You have to do cardiovascular training along with your weight training.
3. You have to throw out all hollow calories such as, fast foods and high sugar foods.
4. You should try to keep good sleeping habits.
5. Watch what you are putting in your body in the way of liquids. You want to avoid drinking too much alcohol, sodas, or other high sugar refreshments.
6. Try and eat slowly so you can tell when you get full rather than eating quickly until you feel stuffed.
7. Try and cut the calories down later in the evening because you don’t have an opportunity to burn those calories off.
8. Try and cut your carbohydrates after lunch.
9. Drink plenty of water.
10. Avoid high sodium foods.
I hope these ten helpful hints help you lose a little weight. Just remember you can’t blame your personal trainer if you’re not doing your part outside of the gym. Personal trainers are not magicians and they are not able to make significant changes seeing you only for a few hours in a week. Today at Illuminate Gym in Denver, Colorado (www.sunshinegym.com) has been all about the signing of Tim Tebow to the Denver Broncos. When I arrived at the Denver franchise location for Illuminate Gym I couldn’t help but hear two personal training clients on the treadmill taking about the controversial quarterback from Florida. Then as I made my way to the gym floor a personal trainer screamed out, ‘Let the Tebow era begin in Denver!’. Then a few minutes later another personal training client asked me what I thought about the signing of Tim Tebow. I merely answered by saying, ‘I like him but it’s all about his production on the field. So we’ll see.’
It’s great to see such a buzz going on inside of Illuminate Gym about a Denver sport’s team and many of our clients are very hopeful for the upcoming Denver season. At Illuminate Gym I think it’s important that we separate hype from results too. There a lot of fitness facilities to choose from out there, but it’s important when looking for a fitness facility or fitness franchise that you look for results rather than hype.

Two clients at Illuminate Gym in Denver, Colorado are currently in the fight of their lives with Cancer but they have both made the choice to fight back with fitness. One of these clients has already beaten Cancer once, but this time she is fighting even harder by keeping her body healthy and lean before her chemotherapy treatments begin. The other customer has already gotten into the mind set that he will beat Cancer and he refuses to live a life without fitness. Both of these customers have made it very clear the Illuminate Gym helps them stay fit both physically and mentally because our personal trainers are committed to not letting our customers quit. We won’t quit on them and in turn, we ask them to not to quit on their fitness or their futures. These two customers of Illuminate Gym are extremely brave and though they’re letting Illuminate Gym help in the fight against Cancer we believe everyone needs to fight for a healthier future with fitness. Over 30% of the adult population in the United States is obese and these people are all at risk for diabetes, heart disease and other ailments that could lead to an early death. What started as a vision and grew out of a garage and into a space on Colorado Boulevard is changing directions drastically. We started as a gym called Sunshine with a core group of personal trainers and a following of a group of individuals that always be dear to me. Over the past few months business has changed drastically for myself as my responsibilities begin to be spread beyond the clients in our small boutique gym on Colorado and 7th Avenue. Today the build-out began on a new space that will carry the illuminate gym name in Greenwood Village, Colorado. It is my responsibility to make sure I give this new entrepreneur the best opportunity I can to succeed as I have in owning their own fitness facility.
With this change I look out over an illuminate gym with new faces, new personal trainers, and a new direction. I’m proud of the group of people who continue to help our small little gym grow into more as we continue to speak with perspective franchisees across the country and even beyond. There is no telling what the future holds for any of us but I am proud of all the hard work and dedication that continues to poor into illuminate gym. And though we’ve changed names, and seen personal trainers come and go our simple mission has always stayed true. We provide a service at the best value anywhere and unlike many other fitness facilities in these tough economic times we are here to stay.
As for our next franchisee he has been by my side for years and it will be tough to watch Taj go, but I know it’s also his time to grow as well. Growing and changing, even for the better, is always a hard thing to handle, but in my mind the vision I had years ago is starting to take shape and I’m excitied to see where we go from here. Blizzard like conditions in the Denver area have kept our newest franchisee from being able to meet with his real estate agent to finalize the ‘Letter Of Intent’ (LOI) on our newest location in Greenwood Village, Colorado. The storm crept up on us here at illuminate gym early this fall and has absolutely pummeled the us with snow. Today I sit in our franchise location on 7th and Colorado Boulevard and I watch as the snow continues to fall wondering when this winter wonderland will let up so we can get back to negotiating our latest real estate deal for our latest franchisee. Our attorney in California continues to call us wondering what the status of our meeting was yesterday not understanding the severity of the storm like conditions in the Denver area.
On a brighter not people are still warming up by working out here in the Denver franchise location. They just can’t miss that workout with their personal trainer even though there is over 2 feet on the snow. It’s a testament to our work ethic and the results we get for our clients as they continue to show up at illuminate gym to make sure they stay on track with their regimen. At illuminate gym our franchise model has begun to catch some steam here in the Denver market as fitness professionals and entrepreneurs begin to look at illuminate gym as a possible career move. Earlier this month we had a vendor who does a lot of clothing for illuminate gym and our franchise development company who came up with an idea to do custom I-Pods with our logos on them. The I-Pod looked sharp with our gym logo on it but as I looked at it I wondered if it was a good thing to give our clients the I-Pod after reading about all the runners who have been killed in the last year due to their lack of concentration and ability to hear as they run down streets with rushing cars by them. The question is do I as a franchisor and franchisee put my clients in danger… Well I guess some of our clients run on the treadmill which doesn’t put them at risk but at the end of the day the bad press I have been reading about I-Pods and fitness made me shy away so we ordered a batch of hoodies instead. I know really high tech right??? It’s better than a client of illuminate gym or any of our personal trainers getting hurt because they were blasting a Kanye West album as they ran down a busy street in Denver or any other city for that matter.

This weekend a former Denver Bronco found his way into our Denver location to meet with some personal trainers. It had been a tough year for the young man as he had lost his head coach and then he was cut by the new regime in Denver. The former professional athlete had heard great things about the business model here at illuminate gym and he had also heard our personal trainers were second to none. So today this Denver Bronco has decided to use illuminate gym as the beginning of his new career as he is looking to hook up with another team before the end of the upcoming football season. We are excited here at illuminate gym to welcome our newest professional athlete to the illuminate gym family and hopefully we can do all we can to help him get back onto the field.

This week illuminate gym became a supporter of ‘Fired up for Kids’ in the Denver area. ‘Fired up for Kids’ is an organization that raises money along with the Denver Fire Department for the Children’s Hospital for those kids who have been injured by fires. It’s a great feeling to help out the local children here in Denver who have been injured. It also offers us an amazing opportunity to get our name out in the Denver community by aligning ourselves with such a positive campaign to help the Denver community. In September our the illuminate personal trainers will be hooking up with the Denver Fire Department to help raise even more money for the cause.
